Donner Lake is a freshwater lake located in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, USA. It is situated at an elevation of 5,969 feet above sea level and is about three miles long, one mile wide, and 462 feet deep. The lake is named after the Donner Party, a group of pioneers who were trapped by snow in the nearby Sierra Nevada mountains in the winter of 1846-47. Today, the lake is a popular destination for outdoor recreation, including swimming, fishing, boating, and hiking. The surrounding area also offers camping, skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.
